Just Beginning Where I Left Off

PhotobucketI had many urges over the last week to sit down and blog, post a photo or two, only to remember that the site hosting my blog was in the midst of a major implosion. Having already lost four years of blog entries earlier this year to a hard drive overwrite I can't say that I was at all surprised or incredulous when it was announced that Journalspace was gone the way of the passenger pigeon. I do however feel a bit sad for the site admin as I know he's poured a lot of energy into the site for years. Hobbies sometimes get out of control and I can't help but think that something which began as fun turned into a full time second job.

Now, as stated above, I'm simply beginning where I left off. So far blogspot's been easy enough to navigate. It's not home yet but I'm sure I'll settle in.

You may have noticed the Southern Toad above. This guy hangs about in our drive on muggy wet nights. As, I live in muggy and wet coastal Mississippi this means that he and I are becoming quite close. After all, you can tell from his expression how enamored he is of me. In fact, I'm sure that in frog/toad culture that slightly pissed off look is actually an expression of great admiration.

So tell me, what do you think he's thinking?

  1. You are very brave and strong to keep on picking yourself up and going on when these crashes trash years of your hard work.

I am real glad I saved some of our old blogs on JS, and at least SOME of our messages back and forth to each other, when I confessed a guy could get a bit of a crush on you, just from your journal.

    And in fact, I did!

    Your Fin

  5. Awesome shot! He looks kind of crestfallen, as if to say, "I was sure you said you'd bring flies. Et tu, Bethany?"

  6. The gate agent just told him he could not get onto the flight to Long Island with his wife.

  7. My Fin, thank you for the continued encouragement Darling. We must get your blog up and running soon.

Holly, I guess the sad thing are the private messages. Fin had some of the earlier, sweeter ones saved but we did lose a lot of correspondence. Thankfully both our text from the actual blog was mostly archived elsewhere.

Lu, it sure feels good to be back!

kate, crestfallen, I hadn't even considered that, next time I'll take a peace offering. :)

  8. How sad to lose those precious early messages. It seems unbelievable but somehow I was not surprised. Nice to see everyone setting up their own nest. JS did it's happy magic for you and Fin. :))

  11. when is Fin getting his blog running? ;)
Glad to see most of JS has found sites to write blogs.
Granted every site I have come across is not as quick as JS was to navigate..

  13. AK, I hope we can have Fin up and going in a couple of days. I have to say, I miss the JS format myself. Especially, how easy it was to choose favorites.

Arwen, I'm glad to see you as well and I hope things are very well for you. I like the look of your new blog. Very nice.

  16. It sure does. I'm so glad we have Westy's forum to find everyone else. Slowly, I'm finding everyone again and even reading a few new folks.

  18. Glad to read you here - I thought of you when traveling in Massachussetts over Thanksgiving - the Eric Carle Museum in Amherst & the Dr. Seuss Memorial Garden in Springfield are MUST SEES on one of your journeys up North! My inner 4-year-old had a great time there.

  19. KIT, I think you're right. Uncanny resemblance.

intelliwench, it's so nice to connect with everyone again. I've read about the Eric Carle Museum and would love to visit and I can only imagine how great the Seuss Memorial Garden is. Everyone should find their inner 4-year-old from time to time. I'm long overdue for a visit to Ma, I've wanted to go for a few years now. Thanks for the suggestions.
