Funny story, well I think it's funny, last year when I was walking back to the library from lunch at the park I saw this beautiful blue bird. I'd never seen one before and thought, "what beautiful color", "what bird could be that blue?". Once back at the library I told all my co-workers about the beautiful blue bird and hightailed it into the upper 500s (I love Dewey) for a little bird identification. Imagine my chagrin when my exotic, never before seen blue bird was actually an Eastern BLUEBIRD. Hmmmm... It all seems so simple and self-explanatory in retrospect.
Thanks to that experience, today when I happened upon this little blue bird at the park, identification was no big deal. I mean really, anyone can see that's an Eastern Bluebird. Jeez...

Your birdwatching is exciting and interesting. I got discouraged when I found that every bird in my birdbook had five different pictures - male, female, summer, winter and young.
ReplyDeleteBut yup, that thar bird sure is blue. Even I can see that.
lol, that is funny! Have a great day sis.
ReplyDeleteThat little guy has quite a tummy. He must have been the early bird, lol.
ReplyDeleteFin, thank you. I appreciate that. Yes,there can be LOTS of variation in just one kind of bird.
ReplyDeletefragilewisdom, thanks. You too.
kate, lol. He looks like one of those waiters that you see in all the kitchen decor with his tuumy sticking out. Now, if he was just wearing an apron.
IU do like Kate's comment.. a fully fed eastern Bluebird... sitting on a fence near blue decorations/letters - but they are a different blue. Went into a bookstore several days over the weekend and went looking for school text books and could we find them on the shelves? That would be asking too much. They do not use any system recognisable...not even good old alphabetical.. so even assistants have trouble finding correct books.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bluebird! :)
ReplyDeleteI was just at my local library yesterday to buy 2 books from the for sale books on the shelves,
and stopped to listen and watch the kiddies and "The Miss Story Teller" that was there.
It reminded me of you. :)
Maggs, I've been in those types of bookstores. They sure are annoying!
ReplyDeleteJudy, that's me the "Miss Story Teller". :)
I love bluebirds too. My mom and dad have bluebird houses so they come every year. I think that's a 'must have' at your new homestead. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you got a picture of it! good job!
ReplyDeleteWow,I don't believe I've ever seen a bird out in the wild quite like that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Sounds like something I would do....
ReplyDeleteI'm just amazed you were able to get so close to take a picture! It is a pretty bird though. Excellent use of that library. :)
ReplyDeleteBethany, I like Dewey too. :)
ReplyDelete(Never got on with Library of Congress!)
