Mockingbird Concert

The Mockingbirds have taken to an almost constant serenade. This one in particular likes the ornamental pear that shades our side porch. As I have the side door open most of the time these days this is the song echoing through my house. He gets really vocal about 30 seconds in.

  1. Have always loved them, as you know. Very glad he is back and has not been eaten.

  2. Thank you for this- I miss Mocking birds and loved hearing his 'song' this morning. Mister M. also came stalking into the living room searching for some prey haha.. I think he thought he was about to finally get to attack. Now he's meowing because the singing has stopped.

    Have a fabulous weekend!

  3. Great video. We don't have much of that out here. I grew up with mockingbirds dominating the trees. I didn't realize they weren't prominent everywhere until I left the South. This rendition is classic. If anyone were to ask what a mocking bird does, this could be the definitive training film.

  4. Wiz, I can just see Mr. M stalking the computer. I played this inside and apparently so that Mr. Mockingbird could hear it and I could hear him outside getting very vocal with the bird encroaching on his space.

John, thanks. I've always lived where there were mockingbirds and hadn't really considered that they weren't everywhere.

  5. Apparently there are more of them at the coast. I checked on that today. Friends complained that mockingbirds outside their window wakes them up.

  6. Okay, I too love the mockingbird, but we have one that tends to sing from about 4 in the morning on.... maybe even a bit earlier than that. I love to have the windows open, but I am not welcoming his song that early. Any suggestions oh great Nature woman!!! -Lu

  7. Smiled when I read this. It is just as the sun brings light to the dark sky the mockingbird does his best to outsing the cardinals. It's very early. And Snow Cat has been charged by them, more than once.

  8. Wildstorm reminded me of how territorial they can be. I now remember the meeting of minds I had with one such who decided my front door was his.

My tennis raquet was the tie breaking vote. I still love to hear them sing though. And I didn't touch him, I hasten to add.
